Mass Exam Failure in Somalia Stirs up a Storm

Somali education policymakers are under pressure to explain how secondary schools in the capital city Mogadishu reported a massive failure rate in the national examinations, while those in regions bordering Kenya had a high pass rate. The city's Governor, Omar Mohamud Mohamed has blamed the poor results on the excessive use of tobacco and other drugs by learners.
