Cote d'Ivoire President Ouattara Gets Green Light For Third Term

Renewed protests erupted in many cities across the country as the Constitutional Council approved President Alassane Ouattara's bid for a third term in office. At least 15 people died during protests in August 2020, when the president first made his announcement. The country's 2016 constitution provides for a two-term limit for the top office but Ouattara and his supporters have said that a 2016 constitutional change will enable him to reset his presidency.
