Expanding Agriculture Key to Tanzania's Economic Growth

Agriculture has for decades, been the biggest contributor to Tanzania's economy. The country's farmers are at the forefront of the drive to restructure the economy and their efforts have been greatly reinforced by government policies. Over 32 million people are employed in the agriculture sector which contributes approximately 28,2% to the country's gross domestic product. Financial institutions are also being urged to assist smallholder farmers to add value to their produce by starting small industries.
