Nigerian Police Disbands Hated Unit Amid #EndSARS Protests

The Inspector-General of Police has announced the dissolution of the dreaded police unit, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The comes after #EndSARS protest spread through major cities, with demonstrations in some areas resulting in clashes with riot police. The police chief also announced reforms including the formation of an investigative team, which will include civil society and human right groups, for the purpose of "investigating alleged cases of human rights violations" by the police.
