Entrepreneurs Using Trash to Clean Up a Nigerian City

Two young scientists and entrepreneurs in the capital of Nigeria's Kwara state saw an opportunity in the plastic waste that plagues countries around the world and threatens the health and livelihoods of millions of people. The founders of  Vicfold Recyclers are demonstrating that ambition and determination can transform litter and garbage into jobs, education and hope. And they see their business, as a model that can be replicated anywhere - changing lives, one plastic bottle at a time.

Vicfold Recyclers staff loading plastic waste purchased from women janitors, who collect the waste from the various hostels on the University of Ilorin campus. The week's buy-back of plastic waste will be transported to the Vicfold "Recycling Park," located next to the university's dump site, for sorting and recycling.

Vicfold Recyclers' co-founder and COO Folashade Amusa at work at the Vicfold "Recycling Park" located at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. Vicfold Recyclers intercepts plastic waste generated on the university campus, preventing the open-air burning of the plastic waste at the university dump site.

Harnessing the diverse opportunities inherent in #environmental #sustainability will not only address the raging #youth #unemployment especially in #Africa but also further domesticate the #SDGs and directly help mitigate #climatechange.
