Inefficient Energy Kills 600,000 African Women, Children Annually
Some 600,000 women and children reportedly die annually in Africa, due to use of inefficient energy sources. Dr Amani Abou-Zeid, the AU commissioner for infrastructure and energy said, "this is a wake-up call to governments and development partners, to take urgent action and end the mortalities. Empowering women along the energy value chains, could significantly enhance their income-generating opportunities, reducing their poverty and that of their households", she said.
