Uganda Police 'Regret' Using Live Ammo at Bobi Wine Protests

A month into campaigning, this is already the bloodiest general election in Uganda's history with more than 50 people shot dead last month. Uganda police have, through operations director Edward Ochom, apologised to the nation for the shooting deaths during the recent protests against the arrest of presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as singer Bobi Wine. The arrest in the Luuka District on November 18, sparked protests across several towns in the country. On December 4, another presidential hopeful from the Forum for Democratic Change, Patrick Amuriat, was arrested while on his campaign trail to Rubirizi, Buhweju and Bushenyi. Police official Martial Tumusiime said that Amuriat defied earlier orders not to enter the central business district.
