Malawi's People With Albinism Begin 2021 With Fear of Attacks

As if the fight against a deadly second wave of Covid-19 is not enough, there has been reports of killings of people with albinism already in 2021, with the latest being in Mangochi, a township in the southern region of Malawi. People with albinism have been killed here and in other parts of Africa for the false belief that their body parts can bring good luck and wealth. Although some people have been arrested for albinism-related crimes, there are serious concerns about the inadequacy of police investigations, and perpetrators being dealt sentences not in line with the severity of the crime.
