Nigerian Film The Milkmaid Misses Oscars 2021 Shortlist

The hope for a Nigerian film to win an Oscar has been dashed, after the film, The Milkmaid which was submitted to the Academy failed to make the shortlist in the International Feature Film category. The category celebrates films from other countries with predominantly non-English dialogue. Two African films, Night of the Kings from Cote d'Ivoire and The Man Who Sold His Skin from Tunisia, made the shortlist.  Nigeria's first-ever entry for the Oscars in 2019 was LionHeart, but it was disqualified for not meeting the language requirement.
