Nigeria to Put 5,000 Boko Haram Suspects on Trial
Five thousand Boko Haram suspects in various detention centres in the country will stand trial on terrorism charges. At least 283 suspects have been interviewed thus far, in efforts to establish their links to terrorist activities. More than 40,000 people have been killed and two million forced to flee their homes since the insurgency began in 2009. Humanitarian organisations have criticised the Nigerian authorities' handling of some of those detained for infringing on the suspects' rights.
