International Community Welcomes New Libyan Interim Govt

The governments of France, Germany, Italy, the UK and U.S. have welcomed the vote of confidence by the members of the House of Representatives meeting in Sirte, endorsing the cabinet chosen by Prime Minister-designate Abdulhamid Dabaiba for an interim Government of National Unity. Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi  has stressed the necessity to build on these positive steps, by pushing forward the path of political settlement and maintaining the current positive climate for the intra-Libyan dialogue, in a way that ends foreign interference in the country. The 74-members of the UN-led Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) selected an interim prime minister and president of their new executive council, marking what UN Special Representative Stephanie Williams called "another historic moment" on the road to unification of the war-torn country. The primary task of the temporary unified executive authority is to lead Libya toward national elections on December 24, 2021.
