Situation in Ethiopia's Tigray Remains Dire - UN

The Tigray region is the scene of conflict that broke out in November 2020, after the regional government at the time defied central government orders to postpone elections. "While there has been substantial improvement in humanitarian access, active hostilities have been reported in the north-western, central, eastern, south-eastern and southern zones", the United Nations' Stéphane Dujarric told correspondents at a regular press briefing. RFI reports that "famine is looming as military operations specifically target food systems with systematic looting and pillaging of food and farms forming part of efforts to use hunger as a weapon of war".
