All Kenyan Adults to Be Vaccinated By 2022

President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced an ambitious plan to vaccinate 10 million people by December 2021 and 26 million by the end of 2022. He says the government had ordered 13 million doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine that is scheduled to arrive in the country by August 2021.

Experts have advised that with the accelerated vaccination, Kenya will have built a capacity to vaccinate 150,000 people every day from August 2021.

Kenyatta has also extended the night curfew that starts at 10pm to 4am for a further 60 days. However, the curfew that starts at 7pm to 4 am in the counties of Kisumu, Siaya, Homa-Bay, Migori, Busia, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, and Trans-Nzoia will continue up to July 31, 2021.

Kenya has secured an additional U.S.$130 million from the World Bank to procure more vaccines and boost its efforts in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

As of June 30, 2021 Kenya recorded 183,603 Covid-19 cases, 125,388 recoveries and 3,621 deaths.
