President Dissolves Tanzania Ports Authority, Shipping Firm

President Samia Suluhu has dissolved the board of the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), and that of the Shipping Corporation by removing its chairpersons for their unsatisfactory performance. Suluhu Hassan announced the decision on December 4, 2021. She cited corruption as one of the shortcomings facing the authority which were also included in the Auditor General's report.

The president said that port payment systems has for a long time been manipulated by staff, where fake cargo payments has led to a loss of revenue to the country. Suluhu also mentioned the approval of a fake tender that was submitted by the Shipping Corporation for which she has tasked the Minister for Works and Transport Makame Mbarawa, as well as the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau to probe, and take immediate stringent measures against all those involved.
