Nigeria Clears 18 Candidates for 2023 Presidential Race

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates contesting for the presidency in the 2023 general elections. INEC noted that 18 parties had fielded presidential candidates and their running mates.

The list include the names, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the  New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

INEC also cleared 1,101 candidates for the 109 Senatorial seats and 3,122 candidates for the 360 seats in the House of Representatives.

The next Nigerian president faces a daunting and onerous task. Rampant insecurity, chronic unemployment and a worsening economic outlook are among issues the candidates are expected to address.
