Dozens of People Drown After Boat Capsizes in Nigeria

At least 76 people have reportedly been killed after a boat accident in Anambra State. Most of the victims were women and children, trying to reach safety after their community was flooded.

President Muhammadu Buhari expressed his condolences to the victims' families. He also ordered a review of safety measures across the country's water transport system and said emergency services must do everything to account for those missing.

Anambra is among 29 of Nigeria's 36 states to have experienced heavy flooding this year. The waters have washed away homes, crops, and roads and affected at least half a million people. More than 300 people have been killed and at least 100,000 are homeless, according to the National Emergency Management Agency.
