U.S.-Africa Summit - Civil Society, Youth, Health, Trade, Climate

"The U.S. will commit $55 billion to Africa over the course of the next three years across a wide range of sectors to tackle the core challenges of our time," National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced in a  White House briefing on the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit hosted by President Joe Biden in Washington, DC this week.. "These commitments build on the United States' longstanding leadership and partnership in development, economic growth, health, and security in Africa over the past three decades."

The officlal summit schedule got under way on Tuesday December 13, 2022 with sessions focusing on African and Diaspora Young Leaders; Civil Society; Space; Peace, Security, and Governance; Sustainable Health Cooperation; and Conservation, Climate Adaptation, and a Just Energy Transition. Taking part in the crowded series of events were presidents and ministers from a number of countries, as well as representatives from a range of non-governmental organizations from Africa and the United States.

The list of heads-of delegations released by the White House includes 36 presidents, nine prime ministers and four foreign ministers, as well as the African Union Commission chairperson.

The White House also released fact sheets on Health Cooperation and Conservation, Climate Adaptation and a Just Energy Transition.
