Over 7 Million Children Malnourished Across Horn of Africa
Over seven million children under the age of five years in the Horn of Africa's Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia, are living through an unprecedented large-scale crisis of hunger, displacement, water scarcity, and insecurity, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) reports.
The children are malnourished and are in need of urgent nutrition support. Over 1.9 million children are at risk of dying from severe malnutrition, UNICEF says.
In August 2022, the World Health Organisation said that climate change, conflict, rising food prices and the Covid-19 pandemic compounded one of the worst droughts in the Horn of Africa in decades.
