Dar es Salaam, Djibouti Outshine Mombasa in World Ports Ranking

Dar es Salaam, Djibouti and Somaliland's Berbera ports have toppled Mombasa port in the World Bank's latest ranking on the most efficient ports. The ranking places the Dar es Salaam Port in Tanzania, ahead of Mombasa Port in Kenya, which is at 326th position out of the 348 ports worldwide that were assessed.

This exercise ranked the ports based on their efficiency, measured by the elapsed time between when a ship reaches a port to its departure from the berth, having completed its cargo exchange.

The Container Port Performance Index 2022 shows that the Port of Berbera (144), Djibouti (26), South Africa's Port Elizabeth (291), Durban (341) and Cape Town (344) are among the ports that were assessed in sub-Saharan Africa.
