Museveni Asks Kenya to Hand Over Ugandan Geologists' Killers

In March 2023, suspected Turkana warriors from Kenya shot dead three geologists from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and two Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers who were guarding them in an incident that happened at Kubebe area, Lokisilei Parish in Lotisan Subcounty Moroto District.

Now Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has threatened to expel all Kenyan Turkanas if the Kenyan government fails to hand over the suspected killers, who will also face charges of gun smuggling and livestock rustling in Uganda.

Museveni, in an 18-page Executive Order, expressed frustration, noting that despite allowing the Turkana herders to settle in Uganda's Karamoja area, they have continued to smuggle guns into the country, posing a threat to its stability.
