UN Habitat Assembly Discusses the Pivotal Role of Urban Renewal

The second session of the United Nations (UN) Habitat Assembly will be held from June 5 to 9, 2023 in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi, with delegates renewing the call for concerted efforts to regenerate urban centers. An estimated 5,000 delegates from 193 UN member states, industry, civil society and academia are attending the five-day meeting, themed "A sustainable urban future through inclusive and effective multilateralism: achieving the sustainable development goals in times of global crises."

The meeting's topics include urban climate action, affordable housing, localizing sustainable development goals, finance, and recovery from urban disasters. On the sidelines of the assembly, there will be an urban expo where more than 50 exhibitors will showcase innovative solutions to challenges facing cities, including waste pollution and inadequate access to shelter.
