Tshisekedi Pledges More Security and Prosperity for DR Congo

Speaking after being sworn in for a second term as president of the Democratic Republic of thge Congo, Felix Tshisekedi promised that to take "all actions necessary for the advancement of our country," which has some 100 million mostly impoversihed inhabitants despite a treasure trove of natural resources.

Addressing jubulant supporters assembled in Kinshasa's Martyrs Stadium along with government officials, African heads of state and other foreign delegations. the president reiterated commitments he made during the campaign - "more jobs, more purchasing power, more security for all, a more diversified and more competitive economy, more access to health services. and more efficient public services."

Opposition contenders, including Moise Katumbi and Martin Fayulu, have rejected offical results, which gave the incumbent 73% of the votes cast. Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, the Archbishop of Kinshasa, has called the elections a "gigantic, organised mess".
