International Women's Day Marked by Global Rallies for Equality

As the world commemorates International Women's Day on March 8th, the world stood united in celebrating the remarkable achievements of women and girls across the globe. This year's theme, "Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress" called for the critical need for collaborative efforts to advance gender equality and empower women in all facets of life.

Since 2015, 50 million more girls are now in school - education is a powerful tool for empowerment. However, challenges remain. In Eastern and Southern Africa, the global AIDS epidemic disproportionately affects women.

Gender-based violence and harmful societal norms limit women's control over their health, making them more vulnerable to HIV. A comprehensive approach is essential, in tackling poverty, racism, and discrimination. The 2gether4SRHR program, supported by UN agencies and the Government of Sweden, aims to protect women's rights.
