Free Flow, Fair Play? Africa's Digital Trade Revolution Explained

African heads of state have adopted a draft protocol to regulate digital trade, a significant step towards establishing a single continental market.

The protocol addresses various digital trade issues, including data governance and digital inclusion, setting rules for traditional and digital trade-specific matters. It aims to strengthen African digital firms, level the playing field between countries, and increase Africa's influence in global trade discussions.

Experts say this could be a huge win for African businesses and consumers, but there are also some potential drawbacks to consider. Franziska Sucker from The Conversation Africa explains the protocol, why it matters and what still needs to be done.
