Scores Die as Overloaded Boat Capsizes at Central African Funeral

At least 58 people tragically lost their lives after an overloaded river boat capsized in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, during a funeral procession.

The wooden boat, carrying over 300 passengers, sank on the Mpoko river, with rescue services arriving 40 minutes after the disaster. Witnesses and social media videos depicted the harrowing scene of people standing or perched on wooden structures before the vessel went down.

While the government initially reported a toll of at least 30 dead, later figures rose to 58. The government pledged an investigation and support for the victims' families as the country struggles with civil unrest and poverty.
