U.S Troops To Make 'Temporary' Withdrawal From Chad

The U.S. Pentagon has announced plans to "reposition" American troops from Chad as part of a "temporary step" ahead of the country's presidential poll. The move comes after a Chadian airforce chief reportedly ordered the U.S. to halt its operations at an airforce base.

Earlier this week U.S. State Department spokesperson Vendant Patel said U.S. military deployments "anywhere around the world", are at the invitation "and with the support and partnership of host nations".

Patel said the Americans were in ongoing conversations about our security partnership with Chadian officials. "Our understanding is that Chad is focused on preparing for its upcoming presidential elections".

The Chad announcement comes just days after the U.S. withdrew its troops from neighboring Niger.
