ICC Launches Sudan War Crime Probe into Darfur Atrocities

The International Criminal Court has launched an appeal for victims and civil society groups in Sudan to provide testimonies and other evidence to help "advance" its investigations into allegations of "widespread international crimes" being committed in El Fasher - the capital city of north Darfur - and its surrounding areas.

In the latest appeal, launched by a video message, ICC prosecutor Karim Khan has urgently called for "information and cooperation from all partners" in the country. He said while the ICC has an active investigation into crimes being committed in other parts of the country, it is "extremely concerned" about allegations of widespread abuse currently taking place in El Fasher.

Aid groups and other stakeholders in Sudan have been warning for weeks of the possibility of mass atrocities in the area, which is home to more than a million people including the internally displaced, if nothing is done to end the violence.
