Tributes Pour In for Former South African Minister Tito Mboweni

Tributes pour in for former Reserve Bank Governor and Labour and Finance Minister Tito Mboweni who passed away after a "short illness."

He was 65.

Mboweni served as South Africa's Minister of Labour in the first democratically elected Cabinet from 1994 to 1999. He then served as the South African Reserve Bank Governor from 1999 to 2009. His final official position in government was as the Minister of Finance in President Ramaphosa's administration from 2018 to 2021.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said, "We have lost a leader and compatriot who has served our nation as an activist, economic policy innovator, and champion of labour rights.'' 

Former South African Finance Minister Tito Mboweni has died.
