Africa Airforce Chiefs Discuss Crisis Response With U.S. General

Heads of African air forces have called for the "strengthening military aviation across borders" during a meeting in the Zambian capital Lusaka, which focused on the management of humanitarian crises and disaster relief.

U.S. Airforce General James Hecker, who leads the U.S Airforces Europe- Airforces Africa command told journalists that the gathering "did not get into the political realm," although he stressed that airstrikes against "high-value" targets in the region will continue.

A civil society group based in Nigeria has, however, expressed its strong opposition to continued U.S. airstrikes, warning that "Africa's security challenges must be addressed through African-led solutions, not foreign bombings".  The Foundation for Peace Professionals said in the statement that foreign military interventions have historically "escalated conflicts" rather than resolved them.
