Forging a Unified African Voice for Women Deliver 2026

Several countries in Africa are expanding services and challenging long-held stigmas about sexual and reproductive health and rights, but young people now face a convergence of challenges. Conflict, climate shocks, shrinking civic space, and rising anti-rights movements are undermining bodily autonomy and access to care. Cuts in funding from international donors are also making vulnerabilities worse, especially in countries with poorly funded health systems.

Without urgent action, decades of hard-won gains risk being reversed, deepening the marginalisation of women, girls, youth, and gender-diverse communities across the continent, writes allAfrica's Melody Chironda from African Regional Convening Towards Women Deliver 2026 in Nairobi.

Diana Kirigo, Lilian Mbuthi, and Apio Winfred shared their lived realities navigating the challenges of a shrinking civic space during the African Regional Convening Towards Women Deliver 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya.
