Tanzania Eyes Top-Four Global Producer Status After Mineral Deal

The government has signed a package of agreements to accelerate the production and processing of strategic minerals within the country. The deal, signed with U.S.-owned Panda Hill Tanzania Limited, will facilitate the mining of niobium - a strategic metal essential for strengthening steel and producing high-performance alloys for infrastructure and advanced manufacturing.

Minister for Minerals Anthony Mavunde has said the partnership will allow Tanzania to strengthen its trade ties with the U.S. Linking the project to the national development agenda, Mavunde said Tanzania is positioned to become the world's fourth-largest producer of the mineral, supplying approximately 4% of the global market with an estimated 100,000 tonnes per year.
