African countries pose a variety of threats and opportunities to the United States, and engaging with them is not optional. But policymakers and analysts have regularly undervalued Africa's importance to US national security and economic interests. A better understanding of how Africa's potential - and problems - affects the United States is urgently needed. This report was authoried by Grant T.
