Sierra Leone appeals for 'urgent' aid for deadly mudslide disaster Sierra Leone's President Ernest Bai Koroma has appealed for "urgent support" after mudslides killed hundreds of people and left thousands homeless. The Red Cross estimates that 600 people are still missing. Rescue operations continue in the capital Freetown, where bodies are being recovered from the debris. Aid agencies are warning of the risk of outbreaks of fatal diseases, such as cholera and typhoid.
