An estimated half a million people have been displaced by ongoing fierce floods across South Sudan. The needs in Pibor are enormous as people are facing this precarious situation which comes several weeks after heavy renewed clashes in Greater Pibor Administrative Area that have uprooted thousands of children men and women from their homes, leaving them with limited to zero access to medical services and basic food. This is further compounded by movement restrictions imposed for both human resources and supply due to COVID-19 pandemic. The MSF emergency response re-launched in Pibor in mid-August, due to the renewed fighting, focused on the provision of medical services to the new wave of displaced people. The response is now being adapted to provide assistance for flood-affected individuals. We are worried about the people being highly exposed to risks of waterborne diseases and malnutrition. The needs are huge and, forecasted to aggravate further an already very precarious humanitarian situation.
