Mozambique: Britain Donates To Flood Victims

Maputo — The British government has announced a donation of three million pounds (about 4.4 million US dollars) to support flood relief operations underway in central Mozambique.

Announcing the aid, International Development minister Clare Short praised the authorities in Maputo "for responding very well to this year's floods."

She however noted that efforts afield notwithstanding, the situation had rapidly deteriorated, hence London's aid package to prop the relief operations.

A release from the British High Commission in Maputo said the money would be spent on logistics, health care and shelter for the flood victims.

Two British experts are already in Mozambique to assist the UN World Food Programme (WFP) in coordinating logistics.
