South African President Thabo Mbeki Friday met his visiting Mozambican counterpart Joachim Chissano in Pretoria on Friday for talks on promoting bilateral economic ties, news reports said. South African Minister of Trade and Industry Alec Erwin and Mozambican senior government officials also took part in the discussions. Erwin's spokesman Edwin Smith was quoted as saying that the talks mainly focused on progress in a number of projects involving South Africa and Mozambique, which included plans for a natural gas pipeline between the two countries and special development initiatives such as the Maputo Corridor linking the Indian Ocean port of Maputo to the South African industrial centre of Johannesburg. The talks also covered labour and immigration matters as well as plans for a cross-border wildlife park between South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, Smith added.
