Mozambique: London Correspondent To Head Aim

Maputo, Mozambique — The head of the Mozambican government's press office, Arlindo Lopes, on Thursday appointed Gustavo Mavie new director of the national news agency, AIM.

Mavie, who until his appointment was AIM correspondent in London, replaces Ricardo Malate. Before moving to London, four years ago, he was AIM's chief news editor.

Mavie's entire professional life has been with AIM which he joined in the late 1970s.

Malate has been director of AIM since 1989 when he took over from Carlos Cardoso.

Meanwhile, Lopes has also announced the appointment of Sofia Ilale as director of the Mass Communications Institute, the government body that specialises in rural journalism.

She replaces Antonio Carrasco. This move is intended to enable Carrasco to concentrate full time on his other job, as director of the Electoral Administration Technical Secretariat, the electoral wing of the civil service.
