Mozambique: Police Learn FBI Methods

Maputo, Mozambique — Fifty members of the Mozambican police are undergoing a weeklong advanced training course in Maputo conducted by four officers of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The country's news agency (AIM) on Thursday quoted a news release from the US embassy in Maputo as saying the course was intended to transmit to the trainees "police expertise" and techniques on such matters as patrolling and interrogation, as well as self-defence tactics.

According to Raul Freire, a senior officer at the Mozambican police general command, the first stage of the training would only benefit police officers from Maputo city and province.

The news release added that the US State Department, through its Embassy in Maputo, was planning to offer more courses to the Mozambican police.
