South Africa: Mpumalanga Premier to Visit Maputo Province

13 November 2001

Pretoria — Mpumalanga Premier Ndaweni Mahlangu jets off on an official three-day visit to Maputo Province, Mozambique, tomorrow to strengthen ties between the two provinces.

The Premier will be accompanied by finance MEC Jacob Mabena and agriculture MEC Candice Mashego-Dlamini, including other senior government officials.

During the visit, the leaders are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding and set a joint committee to renew the continuation of investments.

The two provinces began co-operation in 1995, which saw the establishment of projects of common interest and regular contact in socio-economical, cultural and sport activities.

One of the projects includes the Maputo Development Corridor, which was launched in 1996.

Private sector investments undertaken include the Mozambique Aluminium Smelter, Maputo Iron and Steel Plant, and the natural gas project by Sasol, among others.
