ZAMBIA have been drawn against Mozambique in the quarter-finals of the COSAFA Castle Cup.
According to the draws conducted in Swaziland yesterday, Zambia will host the Black Mambas on July 6.
In other games, Zimbabwe will be at home to Swaziland while Malawi will play Angola next month. South Africa will host Madagascar in July. The proposed semi-final dates are August 10-11 and August 24-25.
The two legged finals will be played in September. Zambia were last year eliminated in the first round by Swaziland but bounced back as luck losers. They were later booted out by Angola in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The team, just like Angola, has won the tournament twice since its inception in 1997. National soccer team coach Patrick Phiri said the draw was fair. "We are determined to go beyond this stage and I believe we can do it," he said. "Zambia has played Mozambique on several occasions and at least we know their style of play."
Phiri said he would any time present his plan for the COSAFA Castle Cup and other engagements for the national team. The Nkana coach who was appointed early this month as Zambia's coach is yet to announce his squad for the campaign.
Chipolopolo Soccer Fans Association general secretary Willie Malasha, however, has appealed to FAZ to immediately constitute a team. He said a lot of time is being wasted instead of starting preparations.
