Africa: Women Qualify For Next 100m Round

Vida Nsiah of Ghana, Mercy Nku of Nigeria and Leonie Mani of Cameroon are through to the next round of the women's 100m event at the Sydney Games.

Nsiah achieved a third place in her first round heat, recording a time of 11.18 seconds, and a second in the next round, with a time of 11.19 seconds.

Nku came second in her first-round heat with a time of 11.41 seconds, and cut her time to 11.26 seconds in the second round to achieve a third place. Mani took third place in her second round with a time of 11.23 seconds, bettering her first-round time by 0.01 seconds.

However, Mercy Onyali-Omagbemi of Nigeria, with a time of 11.40 seconds, did not qualify in the second round.
