Boxers from Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria and Morocco have moved through to the quarter-finals of their divisions.
In the Light Flyweight division, Suleiman Wanjau Bilali of Kenya narrowly missed a place in the quarter-finals on Tuesday when he was beaten on points (10-11) by Rafael Lozano Munoz of Spain.
In earlier, weekend bouts, Samuel Peter of Nigeria beat Onofrei Constantin of Romania on points (17-14) to reach the quarter-final of the Super Heavyweight division. But Ahmed Ali Abdelsamad of Egypt lost 8-21 to Rustam Saidov of Uzbekistan and Michael Macaque of Mauritius lost 14-21 to Art Binkowski of Canada.
In the Light Heavyweight division, Jegbefumere Albert of Nigeria beat Troy Amos-Ross of Canada, when the fight was stopped in round three. However, Charles Adamu of Ghana lost on points (5-13) to Andri Fedtchouk of Ukraine, and Danie Venter of South Africa to Gurcharan Singh of India when he received a headblow in the fouth round.
In the Light Middleweight division, Hekal Mohamed Abdelmawgod of Egypt qualified for his quarter-final by defeating In-Joon Song of Korea (16-5). Mohamed Salah Marmouri of Tunisia was outclassed in round three by Juan Hernandez Sierra of Cuba.
In the Light Welterweight division, Algerian Mohamed Allalou beat Ben Neequaye of Ghana, 15-6, and Saleh Abdelbary Abdel Maksoud of Egypt overcame Vyacheslav Senchencko of Ukraine, 19-16. Olusegun Ajose of Nigeria was ruled outclassed in round four by Ricardo Williams of the USA, over the protests of some Nigerian officials who felt the fight had been stopped too early.
In the Featherweight division, Tahar Tamsamani of Morocco won against Heung-Min Park of Korea, with a 21-14 points victory. Jeffrey Mathebula of South Africa lost 5-16 to Bekzat Sattarkhanov of Kazakhstan, and Musa Simelane of Swaziland was ruled outclassed in round two by Israel Hector Perez of Argentina.
In the Flyweight division, Hicham Mesbahi of Morocco lost 9-12 to Jose Navarro of the USA, in a controversial decision. Drissa Tou of Burkina Faso was outclassed in round two by Jerome Thomas of France, and Kennedy Kanyanta of Zambia lost 9-12 to to Bulat Jumadilov of Kazakhstan.
