Africa: Boxing, Judo And Volleyball Results

A Kenyan boxer whose older brother won a bronze medal at the 1984 Olympics defeated his South African opponent in the first round of their bout at the Olympics on Friday.

Suleiman Wanjau Bilali outclassed Phumzile Matyhila of South Africa in their fight in the Light Flyweight division. His brother, Ibrahim Wachira Bilali, was third in his division in the Los Angeles Olympics. Other results:

Boxing

In the Lightweight division, Raymond Narh of Ghana, who had defeated an East Timorese boxer to get through to the second phase of the tournament, was himself beaten on points (11-17) by Andriy Kotelnyk of Ukraine.

Sebusiso Keketsi of Lesotho was ruled outclassed by Un Chol Kim of North Korea in round 4 of their bout in the Light Flyweight division.

In the men's Middleweight division, Mohamed Mesbahi of Morocco was beaten on points by Aleksandr Zubrihin of Ukraine (5-9), and Albert Eromosele of Nigeria by Gaidarbek Gaidarbekov of Russia (9-15)

Judo

Ahmed Baly of Egypt was defeated by Ernesto Perez of Spain in the men's Heavyweight division. Mohamed Bouaichaoui of Algeria lost to Daniel Hernandes of Brazil and Steeve Nguema Ndong of Gabon to Indrek Pertelson of Estonia. In the Half-lightweight division, Tarek Ayad of Libya was defeated by Yukimasa Nakamura of Japan.

In the women's Heavyweight division, Heba Hefny of Egypt was overcome by Sandra Koeppen of Germany, and Adja Marieme Diop of Senegal by Karina Bryant of Britain.

In the preliminaries of the women's Volleyball championships, Kenya was defeated 0-3 by China.
