Benin-City — Edo State Chapter of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), has commended courage of the party's presidential candidate in the 2003 election, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) in challenging the election of President Olusegun Obasanjo in court.

State Chairman of the party, Mr Pius Iyamah, who made the commendation, debunked the continued orchestration of the existence of any rift within the party either in Edo State or elsewhere, saying the party was neither divided nor factionalised.

In a related development, the party's Publicity Secretary, Comrade Godwin Erhahon, said Buhari could hold his head high because he has, in spite of the decision of the tribunal, "proved himself a worthy candidate; he has kept faith with Nigerians in the struggle for a true democracy and he has fought a good fight."

Erhahon urged Nigerians who desire and have been fighting for the enthronement of "genuine democracy in the country not to surrender our common destiny to evil men in power," whle also commended the "patriotism of the National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Audu Ogbeh, for his candid opinion, which provoked President Obasanjo to confess all he knows about the 2003 general elections."

He blamed the reported factionalisation of ANPP allegedly credited to a state party leader on "the handiwork of enemies of the party, calculated to embarrass the person of the National Chairman of the party, Chief Don Obot Etiebet," when he visited Benin-City recently.
