Washington, DC — Acclaimed Pulitzer prize-winning author and world oil expert Daniel Yergin will open the 2006 Africa Oil & Gas Forum,
the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) announced today. Yergin is a highly respected expert on energy policy and international politics and economics. His opening address on the future of U.S.-Africa oil relations will set the tone for two days of intense dialogue between energy executives, suppliers, and high-level government representatives from the U.S. and Africa attending the Africa Oil & Gas Forum from November 29-December 1, 2006 at the Bethesda Marriot Hotel on 5151 Pooks Hill Road, Bethesda, MD.
"Daniel Yergin is widely recognized as the world authority on oil productions and projections," said Mr. Stephen Hayes, President of CCA. "His participation, along with Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman and other high-level U.S. executives, emphasize Africa's importance to the U.S. energy community."
Yergin is best known for The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power, a number-one bestseller that won the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction in 1992. One of his many other accomplishments is the 1997 United States Energy Award for lifelong achievements in energy and the promotion of international understanding.
He currently serves as the Chairman of the Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA), a leading energy consultancy to international energy companies, governments, financial institutions, and technology providers. CERA's expertise covers all major energy sectors, including oil and refined products, natural gas, and electric power on a global and regional basis.
Yergin and Hon. Dr. Edmund Daukoru, Minister of State for Petroleum from Nigeria and Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), are both confirmed for the opening plenary entitled "Expectations & Reality: A Dialogue between Countries and Investors" on Thursday morning, November 30, 2006 from 08:30-10:00 am at the Bethesda Marriott Hotel on 5151 Pooks Hill Road, Bethesda, MD.
CCA's Africa Oil & Gas Forum is an important event for convening key players in the oil and gas sector. The 2006 Forum will highlight areas for growth and discuss challenging issues in the field.
