Sierra Leone: Koroma Looks Ahead to Election Win

14 September 2007

Ernest Bai Koroma has strengthened his claim to become the next president of Sierra Leone.

With results in from three-quarters of the country's polling stations, he has 60 percent of the vote.

The latest results summary, posted by the National Electoral Commission at 3 pm on September 13, shows that Koroma, of the opposition All People's Congress, has 859,144 votes so far, as against Vice-President Solomon Berewa's 567,449.

The BBC reports that no further results are expected to be announced until next week, pending a probe into claims of irregularities at 14 polling stations.
