The Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) has disputed the accuracy of a report saying that the Lagos State Government is "partnering with the Singapore Power Company to ensure adequate and stable power generation in the state."
Talks between the consulting arm of Singapore power and Lagos State are only at an exploratory stage, SCE said.
The report, from the Daily Independent of Lagos, and published on AllAfrica on March 10, quoted an official of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission as welcoming the cooperation between Lagos State and the Singapore company. The official reportedly said that the state "could not have chosen a better partner, considering Singapore's efforts at turning around its history of shortage of power supply to that of adequate and efficient power generation, transmission and distribution system."
However, in an emailed response to AllAfrica, the director, operations of SCE, Kong Wy Mun writes:
"We would like to clarify that the Lagos State Government has not entered into a partnership with Singapore Power to build an independent power plant in the State.
"The team from SP Global Solutions, the consultancy arm of Singapore Power, was in Lagos last week on an exploratory visit, organised by the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise, to understand the current power situation in Lagos State.
"The team is expected to return to Singapore to consider the possibility of assisting the Lagos State Government to draw up a blueprint on improving the transmission and distribution of power in Lagos."
