AfDB, Rwanda and Burundi Sign Draft Agreement on Road and Electricity Projects

The Bank Group on Monday, March 16, 2009, in Tunis signed a loan agreement of Units of Account (UA) 100 million for the Nyamitanga-Ruhwa-Ntendezi-Mwittyazo multinational road project and an electrical interconnection network project of UA 99.77 million for the Nile equatorial lakes region as part of the total cost of UA160 million with the governments of Rwanda and Burundi.

The agreement was signed for the Bank Group by Director Gilbert Mbesherubusa, on behalf of Vice President Mandla Gantsho, while Burundi's Finance Minister, Clotilde Nizigama, and Rwanda's Infrastructure Minister, Linda Bihiré, signed for their countries. Reading VP Gantsho's speech, Mr. Mbesherubusa stressed that the two projects were at the centre of the Bank's operational priorities designed to promote regional integration through infrastructure development.
