For the fifth time in a row, the World Food Programme (WFP), in partnership with Burkina Faso's Ministry of Basic Education and Literacy and civil society organizations, on June 7, 2009, organized a solidarity walk against hunger in Ouagadougou. The event which was sponsored by first lady, Chantal Compaoré, was attended by the AfDB Resident Representative in Burkina Faso, Antoinette Dinga-Dzondo, and other staff of the Bank's field office in the country.
The objective of the walk was to sensitize the people on the importance of education and good feeding for kids while in school. The event also aimed at raising CFAF 30 million which will help to add 1,400 students to the 7,800 who are already receiving WFP's assistance. Speaking during the event, the sponsor called on government officials, parliamentarians, businesspeople, the media, NGOs, international institutions, the civil society, and service clubs for concerted action that would ensure that kids are taken care of in school canteens. Staff of the Bank's field office in Burkina Faso made contributions which were handed over to WFP during the event.
