The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group President, Mr. Donald Kaberuka, will give the keynote address at the Africa Investor Index Series Summit and Awards scheduled to take place on 21 September 2009 at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

Mr. Kaberuka will emphasize the importance of building partnerships between the global and African capital markets community, as well as showcasing Africa to the world, a key objective of the AfDB.

"At the heart of the African Development Bank's Long-term Strategy is strong, sustained, broad based and shared economic growth," he said, adding that "To this end we invest significantly in private sector activities as a financier, a partner and advisor. My presence at the NYSE Series Summit is testimony to that strategy."

He notes that "the Global Financial Crisis has been a setback to Africa but we believe the underlying fundamentals for renewed growth are strong and the Bank will continue to play a key role in crowding in investment into Africa."

Organised on the theme, "Recapitalisation in the Current Market Downturn", the event provides African CEOs, a platform to engage Wall Street, global emerging market investors and Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWFs) on African capital market opportunities.

African Investor has partnered with the NYSE, NEPAD Business Group, UN global Compact and the UN Office for Partnerships, to provide a platform for engagement with CEOs from top listed companies in the United States, Africa and the Middle East as well as key stock exchanges in Kenya, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritius and Nigeria.

Participants at the event to be opened by Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, will include CEOs from prominent Africa stock exchanges. They will discuss a wide-range of issues, notably, African Capital Dynamics, Investing in the MDGs, IPO and Merger and Acquisition Opportunities, Alternative Investment Funds, NYSE Euronext African Success Stories.

While in the United States, President Kaberuka will attend the 2009 Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative to be opened by President Barack Obama on 22 September; the G20 Summit in Pittsburgh on September 24; and the day after, participate in a meeting of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation meeting in Washington, D.C.
